Date Night Perfect

Time to get dressed up and think about what I will wear for my vday dinner with the hubby. This was the perfect opportunity to try on a dress sent to me by Torrid. Unfortunately, I don't see it online anymore, but check your local Torrid, hopefully they will have in stock for you to try.

I'm always a sucker for a one-shoulder, but it was nice to try on something vibrant and colorful. I admit, I get stuck in the monochromatic styles because it's easy to mix/match....but I'm so feeling this dress. I thought I would pump up my makeup with a fun fuchsia lipstick from Revlon and flip out the ends of my hair for fun. However, still not feeling my home dye highlights....hmmmm....might need to sick a box of brown on the bangs to tone those babies down.

Kickin' it with Kyle

So, this is totally off topic but I just HAD to share. Would you ever imagine that I created a camera loving child? No...not me? LOL
Ever since the day this child entered the world, I've had a camera in his face, and well.....he likes it a lot. Now 3 and a half, this kid begs me to take pictures and video all the time!! It's SOOOO freaking cute, and I know I'm having a total proud momma moment here...so bare with me.

Here's my little man strutting his stuff and showing off his posing skills for mom.

Gotta admit - this kid has chops...we did this in 10 minutes. CRAZY. Love him so much!

What I Wore // Marketing Meeting

Had a marketing/planning meeting with my friends at Sheraton Portland Hotel and here's what I wore....despite the fact is was raining outside. :-| LOLS Whatever, I'm from the NW, I'm allowed to wear sandals in the rain, right?

I've had this top for a long time, was sent to me from Kmart LYS peeps, but for some reason, I could never get into it...but yesterday, it just worked....maybe it was the rocker hair? (Yes, that is my very tame mommy version of "rocker hair".)

These sandals are everything to me, I'm slightly obsessed with them at the moment and the fact the rain won't go away is only making me want them more.

Sunglass Obsession

I've been tempted a LOT lately by all the cute sunglasses in the stores! I'm a sucker for cute glasses under $20. Honestly, I'm so hard on my sunnies that there is NO reason to pay more. Here are some I've tried on and purchased this week!

Current trend obsession - The accent line on the top of the glasses!!

My rule for shopping for sunglasses...
Always take a picture! Never trust just the mirror because the color will look different.

I get asked a lot about what my favorite staple pieces are as a plus size woman and mom on the go. For me, there's nothing better than the perfect black jegging, wedges and a cute top. Cute tops are classified as something that has a different shape, different neck and sleeves and definitely something with flowers/dedazzles/the like.

This top caught my eye because it's the perfect cute top. I love the neck (especially the back) and the sequin panel in front, and well I love anything in white ;).

So here's a perfect example of one of my essential outfits, including my go-to hair and makeup routine.

Reader Request - My Closet

It's Spring cleaning time, and for me that meant get my closet situation under control. And, since I've been asked to show my closet, was the best time to show ya. But here's the thing...my "closet" is my house! LOL

No, really, my hubby has every right to tell me how out of control it is, but I don't know what to do! The best thing I did was go through my closet and sell some items. And, I just bagged up a lot to give to Goodwill. So, here's what I'm left with....just showing the fun stuff...also have a few packed closets, but those aren't as fun.

I finally gathered my nice shoes in my studio. I definitely don't have a large collection as shoes are lower on the style priority list for me. I focus on comfortable and cute and go from there.

Just a few of my bags, again, lower on the priority list as well. I like to carry easy bags that as a mom on the go I can manage. My favorites are cross-bodys and wristlets.

I DO love my belts and need to start wearing my skinny ones.

I hate my boots on the floor all flopped over and since I don't pay premium for the super quality boots, I try to take care of my average quality ones. I like to hang them so the shaft of the boot stays nice and no scuffs or creasing.

My favorite scarves on the planet.

Some items you've seen, some you will soon...My "staging" rack where I put items in my studio that I'll be shooting next.

I want to add more clutches to my inventory!

My husbands hand-towel rack was converted into my bracelet/watch rack...but I need more room now!

I don't know what I would do without tacks for my necklaces! Such a lifesaver since I love long necklaces that get tangled easily. Then I clip my flowers to them so I can find them easily.

Makeup station, these little drawers are essential, and the cup for the brushes - my hubby got that for Christmas, he was all excited about the "bedazzles."

I have a thing about caps, I hate when bottles don't have them. LOL

Love this area...final stop after all done up to check my look.
And love the picture of my hubby and I - that was 3 months after getting together :).

I love when things are out so I can see them and enjoy them, if I had my way, my house would look like a merchandised store! :) So fun to walk into your closet and feel like you're shopping in a cool boutique.

What are your style organization tricks? I'd love to hear, always looking for more.

Reader Q&A // Spring Casual Picks

I had the best reader question yesterday, about casual style and it got me thinking, I wear casual all the time! And, I'm sorry I don't show more of that. Honestly, I'm casual unless I have something to dress up for, but really I could live in the tops below with my Svoboda Jeggings and favorite flats. Style doesn't have to be complicated, it's just about finding simple tops with a little bit of style added. Pockets, cuts, pleats, strips, etc add a lot to the simple top. AND, you always need a cool "over thing" to throw on for added pop. So the top line are my fav simple tops and the bottom line are my fav over things.

Dressing Room Confidential | Lane Bryant

I thought it would be fun to head to my local Lane Bryant to try some clothes on for you! I know the last one I did at Torrid seemed to be a hit and I had spotted some great items online lately that I felt I just needed to try on first. Sorry that this is a longer post!

First up was a sweater/jacket I just new I would love! Listen to me now, GO GET THIS JACKET!! It's super thick and super warm, would be great with long sleeve top underneath to keep toasty. I'm wearing size 22/24.

Then I wanted to try this top I've seen a lot in LB marketing, but the models wear the color block one. However, I wanted to try the white one. Love a chic white top. Can't say it's my favorite, this was a size 26/28 and I found to be more snug than I thought it would be. I was thinking something more flowy. The arms were a big snug and the neck I thought could have been bigger. The good thing is it comes with a free tank, which I LOVED. LOLS....so maybe just buy for the tank?? :)

Then I tried on this dots cardigan, which in fact looked much better in person than online.

Wearing size 22/24 and the white free tank (from above) underneath it.

OK so this top is a MUST BUY RIGHT NOW kind of top. Perfection, amazing, love love love.

I spotted this dress, seemed ehhh on the rack, but was pleasantly surprised with how it looked on. This is the size 24. Thought I would try something a little different, a little outside my comfort zone for ya :).

I think we all know I'm OBSESSED with anything orange/tangerine lately, and this top CALLED to me. I threw on the black/white sweater (that you're going to promptly go out and BUY) and felt like a million bucks. Such a great pairing!

Then I found a cool hat and scarf I wanted to try on. Didn't really have an "outfit" so just put on over the tank/jeans. I LOVE a great hat/scarf! I LOVE the yellow/black/white print.

Oh my gosh you guys,
I'm sick and have ZERO energy for the hair routine, and out of contacts, haven't ordered and jailed to my glasses...I'm embracing the studious look :-|. But that WON'T stop me from feeling cute!

Thank goodness I have some hats on standby. Here's one of my favs, I wore it on this post too.

*TIP* Do your hair AFTER you put the hat on :) Heeheee....I just straighten the ends poking out and voila! Cute :)

an obsession

So I have a confession....I'm a TAD bit obsessed with this top/red/ruffles.

It's so funny because I blogged not long ago how excited I was to try new colors/patterns, but then the red came back with a vengeance!! I swear, it's all I wear now.....again. ;) There's just something about red that when I put it on, I just feel freaking fab. Then add my gold chandelier earrings, AHHHHH LOVE! And the best plus jeggings ever from Svoboda, and you have a good day!

So, I'm sorry if you're bored of the red, I'm sure it will pass soon....but until then.....happy Friday!

This has been a MONUMENTALLY amazing morning. You know it's true when I'm talkin' in caps! ;)

First, you might have seen from my twitter/facebook, but I'm so excited to announce I'm the newest addition to the Perez family as a plus fashion contributor for CoCo Perez!!!! And, ironically I had a lunch date lined up with my girl Margaux Jean, who is also a FitPerez contributor. Mox and I met in 2006 when we did fashion events/marketing in Portland and never would I have imagined so many years later we'd be right where we needed to be and crossing paths again. I love her articles on nutrition and how she never talks about weight, but rather health. Must watch her Easy Nutritional Resolutions for 2012 on FitPerez!

You know that thing where you try to be superwoman? It's dangerous I tell ya....

Well, I was gently reminded by my good friend Mandy the other day, that I'm not.

Everywhere I turn, I see "New Year, New You!!" and all the while it's giving me a freaking complex already. I am an admitted over-achiever perfectionist and well, the OLD me is screaming at myself for trying to be so new and awesome be the best wife, publisher, blogger, photographer, consultant, mother, cook, maid, yadda yaddda......and well I MIGHT have had a mini meltdown the other day. Might.

"Stop trying to be superwoman," those were Mandy's words, and damn it...she's right. Just keeping it real.

Why is it so easy for the "perfection infection" to take control and help us lose all sense of reality, which is 1000% IMperfect? Why? I don't know, I just know that I'm so thankful for friends that keep it real and slap me back to normal once in a while.

Oh, and I'm VERY thankful for my Torrid navy blue striped cardi, it makes me feel normal too. LOL In fact, after looking at these pictures again, my new favorite thing in my closet.

Is it really the 3rd already?!!~ Yikes, so sorry took me so long to post my New Year's Eve outfit!

So, the red top......my everything! (from SimplyBe.com)

The most amazing red top I've ever worn. You know I love my red and lately I've been cheating on red with tangerine and purple and such, but it called me and I had to have it. Why is this top so special? The ruffles, they are everything. It didn't look too special online, but when I put it on, Oh. My. God. I could wear it everywhere!

This top also solidified why I talk about fashion to empower women to feel confident. Honestly, after I had this outfit on (and right now as I type I'm wearing my sweats and hair in a pony, so I don't know WHO this girl is that I'm talking about - LOL)....I felt like a million dollars, like the prettiest girl in the world, and glowed with confidence. I feel there's NOTHING sexier than a confident woman...and I just want YOU to feel like I did on NYE.

114,000 thank yous!

So, I didn't think I'd be doing a recap, but then I thought my new friends and readers might like one! It was so fun going back in my posts and seeing how far this blog has come....2 name changes (oh geez!!!! LOL), 136 posts, biggest Full Body Photo Project Join Campaign ever and thousands of new friends! From 12,000 views in January to 114,000 in December!!!!!!!!!!!!! I swear, I'm living a dream and it's because of you, thank you.

So....let the recap begin! 2011 is the year I really started to focus on my blog...I did some stuff in 2010, but consider Jan 2011 it's birth date :).

January I started the year with a flashback post, 10 posts total and around 12,000 page views for the month. My little man was barely 2 years old and I really needed out of the house and had accepted a position of Marketing Director for the Pollin Hotel Group, which a dream come true. I'd never been recruited before?!!

POST: "Wig'n Out"

February marked a new tone in my blog, from talking just fashion to talking body love as well. I posted 7 posts and my post "Fat Girl You are Beautiful" helped my readers connect to my message of LOVE YOUR BODY, readership jumped to 24,000 page views for the month.

March was a fun month! I turned 31 years old, my job at Pollin Hotels was so much fun as I got to produce my dream events and really get "me" back. I swear, after having Kyle bug, it was so hard to get my mojo back!

April brought a busy month! I was in full swing planning my new show, Weddings of the World - the NW's only Multicultural Wedding Show. Plus, I was working full time on my new endeavor, Jessica Kane Branding and Marketing Agency. I was signing on new clients and working like crazy for Pollin Hotels!

POST: "Standard Work Attire"

May was a HUGE month both for work and my blog! The wedding show was May 15th and was a huge success with over 900 people showing including 42 vendors, 3 ballrooms, 25,000 square feet of wedding showcases, a fashion show and so much more. But, I also gave my resignation and went full time on my own (again!). I focused on new branding/marketing clients and reviving my plan for Skorch Magazine and my blog. I was still trying to figure out my path....a top agency? or top publisher? I had no idea...but kept at it! I then came up with the idea to create a plus style network, the Skorch Network, and I started building.

Then, I posted about something that was always on my mind - women not showing their arms! It was almost summer and I thought I'd help get us to show our arms! Before you knew it, everyone was reposting and tweeting and even Lane Bryant featured the post on their facebook page to a half million ladies!! That post really opened my blog up to new readers and jumped my blog to 35,000 page views that month.

August marked a month of focus on my path in life. I finally knew what I wanted to do with my blog, Skorch and all my businesses...it was a time of focus as I transitioned from part time blogger to full time blogger and taking that success to the Skorch Network as well. Skorch Mag re-launched (for the 4th time? LOL - such is life) with a new focus - BLOGGERS! And, was an instant hit, so awesome.

And, my blog had lots of popular posts including my favorite clearance find ever (below), then the Launch for NuWay Beauty featuring the hottest dress I've ever worn! Then posted my first ever youtube Q&A video about maternity and bras and partied with the Queens at my favorite LGBT Bar - Embers.

September My son turned 3 years old on the 3rd (meaning I survived somehow!) and the Full Body Photo Project came back HUGE for the 2nd Annual Join & Win Promotion. And, the plus publishers of the world supported me as media sponsors, in a small community, that meant everything to me. So huge and was truly one of my favorite moments of 2011.

October was the month I drew the winners of the Full Body Photo Project and went to LA for the Love Your Body Day event. SOOOOOOO much fun, huge huge! I can't EVEN express how honored I felt to be included in this picture, these women are MAJOR and women I look up and have nothing but respect.

December finally came, and too quickly! I was beyond ecstatic to be featured on the social sites for these companies and absolutely know I owe my blog traffic to them and you my readers. I can NOT say thank you enough, I really need a stronger word! :)

This was one I sat on for quite a while, because I wanted to be sure I told my story the right way. I had a feeling this post would be a good one, thought a lot of women would be able to really get to know the me and connect, but never did I dream over 10,400 ladies would!!!! Humbling and inspiring all in one. I can't even put in words. And, even more crazy was my blog received over 114,000 page views for December. What a holiday present, thank YOU so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for making 2011 such an amazing year! I tell my hubby all the time, I feel "in the zone"...so completely connected to what I know I'm supposed to do. It's terrifying sometimes, but once I tell my brain to shush, my heart knows I'm on the right path.

I have plans how I want to see 2012 end, and it better not be with another planet smashing into us!!! LOL Um no, unacceptable! I have a lot of BIG BIG HUGEEEE things planned and already in the works and can not wait to share. I will continue to bring you blog posts, more videos, more giveaways and hopefully more of what you love. Plus, I'll be working on my book with my friend Mandy Allen, it's not the typical style book....but something a little different. Taking Inventory

Happy 2012!

I've NEVER been the resolution girl, because I'm constantly trying to "take inventory" of myself and what I need to work on. But, I do find myself thinking right now that I need to challenge myself to dress up more. See, I work at my home office and it's too easy to go straight to work and pass up getting dressed all together. Thank goodness I have you, my blog and appointments to hold my fashionably accountable!

So, I'm thinking a challenge is in order...a dress up challenge. Starting Monday 1/9, I want to challenge both of us to dress up (hair/makeup/clothing) EVERY day from Monday-Friday! And, post EVERY day your picture to my facebook wall - and of course I'm going to say ONLY full body photos :) hehehehhe.

K? I'm doing it to! So giving you a week warning - it's on baby! So...to the outfit....

I blogged this outfit here, but wanted to show you how I flipped it and went gold/browns instead. I think I've worn this outfit 3 times since I took these pictures! LOL

So, just to be mushy for a minute.....

I have to tell you how much you have changed my life. Because of all you AMAZING readers who support me, share my posts, tweet your friends and visit my blog daily (around 98,000 times in December!!!!!!), you have allowed me to live my dream. To inspire and empower women to look beyond the weight, and realize as a person, they/you are beautiful. If I listened to everyone who said a size 26 girl was disgusting, then I wouldn't go get cute clothes, and wear fun hair and makeup and I certainly wouldn't have a blog. I would be in my room, living in my hole and hating myself.

Unfortunately, I think TOO many women DO believe the crap that comes out of some people's mouths. But, you create and determine your worth, YOU. You have the power to believe and embrace your confidence. It's baby steps, like wearing shorts for the first time in 5 years, or wearing a bathing suit in public for the first time....these baby steps will help you realize it's not so scary to embrace your body and stop hiding.

And remember, fashion/style is all personal taste. If someone doesn't like what you're wearing, who cares? As long as you feel great! It's like sushi, some hate some love...but neither are wrong.

I wish you a happy new year loves! And, I'm going to challenge ourselves to commit to dressing up (you know, no jammies/sweats) for 5 straight days. I have a feeling we're gonna feel fabulous. And, I'll insist you share daily on my facebook wall or tweet me to hold us ALL accountable.

Effortlessly Chic

First, how is it Thursday, like almost the New Year??
Honestly, time is going by WAY too quick!!

Thank goodness I have a little home studio for shooting outfits, makes posts so much faster! I went to my client, Sheraton Portland Hotel, to meet with my liquor sponsor for the NYE party, and I needed to look a bit effortlessly chic. Didn't want to look like I was trying too hard - LOL. And, this top was IT.

I've been on the search for a simple, but detailed white sheer top forever now! Something that felt and looked luxe, but without the price. I finally found two tops that I loved, this is one - from Simply Be, it was only $27 (and of course out of stock now)!!!!!! I swear it's utter perfection. It has this detailing in the fabric that is so gorgeous and the sleeve detail is so perfect. I love how I can wear with and without a belt, and go casual or dressy with it.

Of course I wore my favorite jeggings of ALL time, the Svoboda 360 Stretch Five Pocket Skinny Jean in Blue Stone (still need to get the review up! sorry).

I swear, this is one of my favorite outfits ever!! And, remember my favorite boots, the Cognac LULU from Torrid? Well, they sent me the black pair TOO!! *dying* BEST BOOT EVER for a 20" calf.
K, well I'm off to finish planning and printing for the NYE event....of which I get to work. :( No fun plans this year, that's kind of the downside to marketing, you usually have to WORK the event, instead of enjoy it. What are you planning?? I'd love to live vicariously through you!

Merry After Christmas lovers!
I so enjoyed spending time with my hubby and kiddo and excited to enjoy my presents (well I AM enjoying my ergonomic keyboard and mouse right now - GENIUS!)....of which a handmade scarf from my friend Brit! I CAN NOT believe tomorrow is Christmas EVE! I'm definitely way more excited than usual because of my 3 year old, I get to live Christmas again through his eyes and I LOVE IT. Plus, he doesn't know he has a Wii under the tree :) Shhhhh

Had to run out the other day and wanted to do something a little different. I love going to my closet and mixing and matching to see what new combo's I can create. So, in my book, these are total yes's:

Matching colored choker + long necklace (I used to think that was so a big no? But I like now)
Stripes under a bright solid. I love black/white stripes paired with bright red, bright blue, etc. Try it out!

Color Obsession \\ Blue + Tangerine

Oh my gosh you guys,
I was SO hating the weather and light the other day. But, I was OBSESSED with this outfit and wanted to show you. So, thought I would dress it up a little with some graphic design....do you hate it? love it? Feedback is always welcomed!

I never thought blue color combo's would drag me away from my stable black/white/grey favorites...but it has! I'm loving gold and blue, but also gold and tangerine. The tricky thing about tangerine, it's SOOOO gorgeous in person, but is freaking hard to photograph! GAH!

Plus, this outfit features some freaking amazing new jeggings I got to try! I have a review post coming up asap for them - they are from SVOBODA. My friend, Jessica Svoboda is the owner/designer, and I was so lucky to see her while I was in LA and even see new fabrics she's working on and give my feedback!! So exciting, I so love design and have so many ideas in my head. As a big girl on the larger end of the spectrum, it's SOOOO hard to find stuff that fits and looks good, maybe someday I'll be able to help that problem. *wishing*

Being a 26/28 is no walk in the park but you've given me new hope that style and success are things I can achieve and now i want to go shopping! - Robin from Pasco, WA

Your blog inspires me! I love how you live life to the fullest! I often feel bad that I am a plus size woman and I feel like people judge me because of that so I stick to the droopy clothing away from what my heart truly wants and I think tomorrow will be better or if I could just lose more weight,m if I could lose 100lbs+ I would feel better about myself but I am beginning to see it is all about perception of how I feel about myself and not what others think or feel about me. I can't tell you how touchedI am and how honored I feel that every day I receive emails, tweets, comments and more from readers telling me how much I havechanged their lives. And, it overjoys me that my mission is working....to empower women who struggle to love their bodies to feel confident and love themselves. This is why I will answer every reader question and comment possible! I read story after story of women who are/were depressed, lost and in search of someone to understand, I hear the voice of a 16 year old girl who wished the same things. Before internet and bloggers, back when the only influence you had were your school friends, family and magazines.

That 16 year old was me. This confident girl that I am today is NOT who I've always been.

I'm NOT the girl who alwaysknew her style, always loved hair/makeup, and was popular or cool (and I'm not saying it's bad if you are/were, just wasn't me). In fact, I was teased mercilessly for my maiden name, Head. (that's even hard to TYPE!) I was nothappy or confident and certainly NEVER did I dream I'd be thewoman I am today. My story is one I rarely share, because I don't look back and feel sorry for myself, and I don't want sympathy, but this is a great story - one of struggle and perseverance. And I am proud.

Not all of us have a femalerole model to look to, in fact, most of us have no one tolook to. Coming from a cliche broken home (young & alcoholic mother, absentee father, poverty and living at a salvation army, sexual and physical abuse, two sisters that went to foster care so I never go to know them, and so forth), I didn't either. It was when I was 20 years old that I knew there was more out there and I knew I was meant for more. I wasn't able to afford college, was trapped in a marriage, but as a resourceful and hardworking woman, I opened many doors professionally. And, then the day Idiscovered makeup happened (wedding photo below), that moment changed my lifeforever and was the first day of a four year journey to find myself.

When I looked in themirror....I saw this beautiful woman...someone I didn't recognize. And,then...a flicker of confidence went through my soul. I instantly looked at myself differently...with pride.
Then, after a series life changing events in 2004 including a dangerous crash diet where I lost over 120lbs in 1 year, the end of my first marriage and a miscarriage, I realized my strength and potential, and instead of listening to the voices in my head that for so long tore me down, I chose to listen to the powerful woman that was hidden inside. And even after 7 years and 100lbs BACK on, I am STILL that confident woman. It wasn't the weight...it was me.

I'm sharing this because I want you to know why I'm so passionate, and that it's NOT just about the clothes for me. And to the women who tell methey think I have it all together and so easy....I don't. Even today, Istruggle with feeling confident, loving my body, etc.(just ask my friends!) Ittakes effort and courage to say I love me, especially when the accepted norm isto pick yourself apart. And, it takes an army of positivity (again, thankyou said friends and you my positive readers!)...which is why I refuse to tearanyone down or pick at anyone, because that action will not help that personthink differently - but instead make them more defensive. I know this first-hand.

I want to share some never before seen photos with you, these are moments that I have only shared with my husband until now. Even my close friends have never seen these pictures.

She spent way too much time hatingherself. So beautiful, but hated her body, self and life. That smile is aforced one.

Senior year in my locker bin,wearing my favorite outfit of the time. I was a total jock... I could only shopin the JcPenney men's dept. for my clothes. My go-to pants were the SilvertabLevi's - 42/32. Since I lived in a super small town, there was no Lane Bryant,no Torrid, not even a Macy's. What strikes me about this photo, is I so remember how fat I felt since my shirt was a 2xl.

I would beat myself up every day because I was never good enough....and looking back, I can't believe that I thought that. I was 180lbs and all muscle from power lifting and being a shotput thrower...that's a great thing, I was HEALTHY.

Your weight is NOT the issue, the issue is how you are viewing yourself. I'm the same weight I was back at my most depressed, and yet I feel the most confident now...because I view myself as beautiful.

It'sok to say you love yourself and take pride in yourself...and it's ok to havethose moments where you hold yourself accountable and give yourself a kick inthe ass. Just be YOU.

Hello hellooooo,

So.

What at first was destined for tragedy, went off quite well. Ok, that's a bit dramatic, but it was a night for me....LOL. To start, when you're a mommy who never gets out, and a blogger who wears a LOT of day stuff, you get excited when you know you have a planned girls night. Babysitter, check! Tickets, check! Friends, yes!

So, like most middle aged ladies - am I right? 31 count? Well, I feel middle aged most of the time.
So, like ladies my age...we plan for this like it's the PROM. Every little detail! I had the MOST amazing outfit planned - In. My. Head. So, after putting my gloriously planned frock on - bam - no way. Not gonna happen. Like, just was TOTALLY NOT feeling it. No worries, that happens....but now what??!!! I try to bring you ladies new and fun ideas for outfits, and I couldn't wear a repeat!! **oh god, I sound like THAT blogger* lowers head.

Well, we were headed to a 20's themed charity party, and I tried to "twenties" it up...but I'm HORRIBLE at theme parties. But, the good news, I think I managed to accidentally pull it off! LOL Thanks to my favorite Torrid dress, my new shell clutch from Forever21 and a new present sent to me from my new friend Susie at Embellish Boutique, a cape.

So, here's the story on the cape. Full disclosure. When I opened up the package, which was so amazingly thoughtful and sweet, I instantly was scared....a cape...what do I do with a cape? Oh god, she sent me this amazing present and I have NO idea how to rock it :(.

But, fate stepped in and that very cape saved the night!!!! And, I now I'm completely in LOVE with it and want to wear it EVERYWHERE. I didn't want to take it off. I felt so glamorous and so warm! Thank God, since it was 25 degrees outside!

So, thank you Susie for saving my night. You and your cape are my new obsessions :).

OOTD \\ Board Meeting

Hello hello ladies, here's a plus size OOTD (outfit of the day) - do you know how long it took me to figure out what that meant!??! *laughing*

You know, I know, there is NOTHING better than a hot blazer, skinnies and wedges...but sometimes it gets a bit hot and you have to consider that you might need to take that blazer off and still look cute!

I was headed to a board meeting the other day and KNEW they would crank up the heat, so my solution was to wear a cute 3/4 sleeve v-neck under it, this one is a Twist Tee from Torrid. That way, when I took it off, I'd still be fash. (is that a word? fash? just sounds right - LOL).

*tip* My trick, that most of my friends think is cool, is to wear the belt under the blazer (not on top). In fact, being a bigger girl, I love the belt look, but some days you just don't feel you're able to rock it - so the blazer over covers you up a bit, but still shows off the fab wide belt look.

I also talk a LOT about jeggings and get asked which ones I love. I have talked about Old Navy, Avenue, Lane Bryant and Torrid....and I am adding these luxe black babies to the TOP of my favorite list.
They are the so freaking comfortable, no really. I love they have a high waist, as you put on weight, you find your pants getting higher and higher with my body type! LOL - so I feel very comfortable in these. They are Source of Wisdom Luxe Black Skinny, and I'm wearing the size 26. I have to say, these run quite large. I am a true 26/28, and I have plenty of room - in fact, thinking about getting the size down. The best part is though, they don't fall down...they stay put??!

Have lots of room but they don't fall down!

Review time!The totally kind folks at Monroe & Main sent me this top to review and share with you. They did not compensate me and have just asked for my genuine review. And, the good news is, I LOVED IT!

I actually have been eyeing this top for quite a while from the catalog I started receiving a few months ago, the damask velvet made me swoon! Still not sure how they got my address? LOL - but glad they did!

When I looked at this top online, I saw the reviews were all good, so I thought I'd give it a chance. I was so excited to pair it with my gold lovelies, I'm kinda obsessed with navy and gold right now. I need moorrreeeeeee.

My Review:

Fit: Perfect! The sleeves are longer and I liked that, but if you were trying to show off a watch, you wouldn't see it. I paired with a few large bangles, which push the sleeve back. The neck opening was quite large and I found myself pulling at my right shoulder to make sure my bra strap didn't show a few times, but not enough to make me not get this top. I thought the length was perfect as well. And, the fabric does have quite a bit of stretch to it, so if unsure on size, I'd order a size down.

Color: Compared to what's shown on the website, I thought the color was exactly the same. Some of my shots make it look more purple, but it's definitely blue. And a beautiful blue!

Fabric: The fabric is pretty thin, but the velvet is thick and very nice. If you ordered a size down and like it more snug, you wouldn't be able to wear a white bra.

Sizing: Top available in sizes 1X - 3X. I ordered the 3X and it's true to size. The sleeves are longer, so if you have petite arms, this will not work well on you. I have average to longer arms and it was perfect for me.

Pricing: I do think $50 is a bit pricey for this top considering the thinner type of jersey that it is, but the velvet is gorgeous and very nice. I haven't washed it yet, so kinda scared about that, will have to keep you posted on that one.

Overall: 5 stars

last day of fall

These leaves came and went so fast that I'm so thankful to have shot with them. It was the last day of fall and one of my favorite shoots EVVEERRRRR. I can not believe how amaze these look, ok, well...I can, since my photographer Stacy J is a GENIUS.

When picking out what to wear, Stacy helped me out and insisted I wear something NOT red/houndstooth/sequin. LOLS! So I gave in, then got all inspired and busted out this beautiful vintage "Missphit" (company now called Kristin Miles) that the owner had gifted me. I had only worn it a few times, but now have fallen completely re-in-love with it....wearing it all the time!

Definitely my stylish and confidence building look for fall/winter. Can't go wrong with boots, skinnies, cardi and necklace! You just feel like a million when you walk out the door (and you will be warm and comfy).

a sequin top that didn't chew up my arms!

Hey guys!
Here are the photos from the Snow Patrol concert the other night at Aloft Portland Hotel - my client under www.jkane.co. It was a super fun night and the guys were so funny!! Honestly, live is the best way to enjoy music...because I never really thought they were a big deal, but after hearing them live, I'm loving them. Same with Michelle Branch, she was PHENOM live.

I was having serious issues with what to wear, the concert was at 4pm, but I knew it would be dark in the hotel lobby, so I glammed up my makeup a bit using my Sigma Bare Eye Palette - same eyes as in my smokey eye tutorial. Then, I went in search of a top...

Thankfully, Pennington's had sent me their sequin tee to try! And, I have to say, I love it. The sequins are the same color as the shirt, so you don't feel like an ornament! It fits like a true tshirt, so super comfortable, and I found that unlike most sequin tops, my arms didn't get all chewed up!! It's also a nice longer length and would be great to pair with a wide belt! It also comes in silver and blue, sizes 1X-5X (limited avail now, run fast!) and only $39.99. I'm wearing the 3x and would say it's true to size. Totally recommend! Check it out here.

my boot obsession

Did I mention I'm obsessed with these boots?

NO?

Well, I'm OBSESSED (and with Torrid obviously as well since I'm head to toe in T!).

I have lived over 30 years on this planet without a decent loose fitting tall boots having 19.5" calves. I would feel so left out of the tall boot craze and wearing my flats that would fit my feet....And, the magical year of 2011 brought me my new babies! Well, and Torrid :). I admit, I do get a lot of free stuff from retailers to try and I do love, and I'm so appreciative, but that means I rarely buy anything! So when I do buy something, it's something I can NOT live without...like these boots!

I was lucky and got them $20 off, so only $48! Crazy. And, to think I almost thought the cognac color would go with anything in my wardrobe?!!!? blasphemy, these are PERFECT!

Here are some pictures from yesterday and my lunch date. There really isn't anything that can make you feel more confident than some great boots and a great outfit. You really do feel as good as you look sometimes!

Had to share my new headshots from Stacy J Photography, I can't tell you how much I loved the backdrop and my sequin top from Karen Kane. And, I also loved how this shoot challenged my stance on photoshopping myself more than I had expected. Stacy is a very popular Portland photographer who's clientele is a roster full of models and wannabe models. When we connected, it was an opportunity for BOTH of us to show a different side of ourselves.

For her, she is sooooo used to models complaining about their body/skin in the image and begging for her to "fix" the flaws, while she can, she was excited to work with me being that I refuse to be "fixed." I actually loved her glamour edits, but knew they were not me.

My policy is - you are PERFECT the way you are. We are too bombarded by "fixed" images to realize what is real anymore and to truly appreciate it. I vow to keep my images real because I am not ashamed of one lump, bump, pore or wrinkle, and neither should you.

Real is Perfect.

Behind the scenes fact: This "studio" was just outside my garage! We hung the backdrop from my garage door, put up the chair and took advantage of the amazing natural light that day. Loved it.

And, I have to also give a shout to Stacy for doing my makeup - it was airbrushed on - ironically!! :) I have to say, I loved the matte and glow of it! Thanks Stace!
